A late note: on Wednesday 06 SEP 2006 at Rankin Bottoms, David Chaffin
and I witnessed a Peregrine Falcon taking a Wilson's Phalarope from the surface
of the lake across from the coal tipple. The falcon dove on the shorebird
around a dozen times, each time missing when the phalarope dove briefly
underwater for a second to pop up just after the falcon's pass. Finally the
Peregrine got his timing down and met him coming back up, retiring then with
his catch to a tree where we could see him eat.
There was also another Peregrine in the area that I saw earlier that day,
with a more heavily streaked breast.
