Mendota Hawk Watch Report for 9/14/06
After the cold front moved through, we had some good flying conditions today:
A steady, cool wind of 5-15 mph out of the north/northwest; partly to mostly
cloudy conditions and mild temperatures ranging from 58-74 degrees. Observers
were at the tower from 9:30 till 6:15, and included Tom Hunter, Ted Dingler,
Larry McDaniel, and Ron Harrington. The first Broad-winged hawk was seen at
10:30. Things were relatively slow with just a few from time to time until
4:00.
During this hour we picked up 52 Broad-winged hawks and the adult Am. Bald
Eagle. Larry reported that a large number of hawks (several thousand) were
seen
at Hawk Mountain, PA last Tuesday a.m. and many of those could be headed this
way. Conditions for tomorrow and the coming weekend look great, so come on up
and join in the fun. Catch the Fever!
