It's difficult to know if some of them were summer residents or migrants, but
the variety of bird species around my home in Hampton, Carter Co., TN, ticked
up slightly this past weekend.
I had Eastern Phoebe, Acadian Flycatcher and Eastern Wood-Pewee as well as
Gray Catbirds, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and Chimney Swifts.
I also had several warblers, including a singing male Hooded Warbler as well
as Black-and-white Warbler and Black-throated Blue Warbler. I also had a
Red-eyed Vireo. Two warblers got away before I could identify them.
Red-breasted Nuthatches returned on Sept. 2. This is the first year in
several years I have failed to detect them in August.

Hampton, TN
