We stayed later than Don, and canoed from RB along the riverbank shoal to 
Leadvale, then up the French Broad and into the Nolichucky, returning just 
before dark.  We spotted a juvenile RUDDY TURNSTONE foraging with 18 
SANDERLINGS in the driftwood and litter along the French Broad riverbank.  
We also saw several SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and a 
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 3 species not included on Don's list.  We also saw 
one COMMON NIGHTHAWK, no doubt #391, reported by Don yesterday, but which we 
had missed in our count of 390.  :)

We got a close look at the WOOD STORK, which was wading by itself in the 
mudflats after the great egrets had flown to roost.  It must be spending the 
day in the swampy backwaters - nearly all sightings have been after 7:00 PM.

Douglas Lake elevation is slightly higher, due to recent rains.  It's 
predicted to stay at 983.2 for the next 2 days.  Easiest viewing from shore 
is below 981.

NOLICHUCKY RIVER (Hamblen county): Limited mudflats; we didn't see any 
shorebirds.
