Hi Hawk Fans:
In deference to the oncoming Ivan, I didn't go up to the Mendota Fire Tower
yesterday. We might have flying conditions again as early as Sunday afternoon,
but the predictions are "up in the air" as we speak. The hawks have the urge
and will move as soon as there are thermals and/or a favorable wind (best out
of the Northwest). Check the weather before coming up.
I do have some additional figures previously unreported. Harold and Violet
Larkin were at the site on Saturday, September 11, 2004. The saw 19
Broad-winged
Hawks, two Osprey, one Cooper's Hawk, one Sharp-shinned Hawk, and two
immature American Bald Eagles. The year-to-date figures have been amended as
follows:
Broad-winged Hawk: 646
Sharp-shinned Hawk: 5
Cooper's Hawk: 4
Osprey: 13
Bald Eagle: 5
Goshawk: 1
Red-headed WP: 8
