Hi Wallace
    I was just out at Musick's Campground in my kayak and saw a Sanderling, a 
peep and a Red 
Phalarope.  The phalarope was the same size as the Sanderling, but he stayed in 
the edge of the water instead of running along the edge like the Sanderling.  
He had a dark patch over his eyes and a black nape.  His wings were dark and 
his back was a lighter grey.
    I've never had to differentiate a Red from a Red necked in winter plummage 
so that is my best shot.
