On Saturday, Sept. 7, after attending the bird walks at the Roan Mountain
Naturalists Rally, Roan Mountain, TN, Bryan Stevens and Reece Jamerson (Johnson
City) went back to Bryan's place in Hampton, TN on Simerly Creek Road (only
about 20 minutes from Roan Mountain) for a quick woodland walk.
We soon racked up seven species of warblers, Red-breasted Nuthatches and an
Empid sp. flycatcher. The warblers were: American Redstart, Magnolia,
Black-throated Blue, Chestnut-sided, Ovenbird, Hooded and Black-and-white.
There were several Black-and-Whites and several Magnolias.
All this during the heat of the day between 2-3 p.m. suggests that migration is
truly underway.
Bryan Stevens,
Hampton, TN
