August 17-18, 2007
Greene County--parts of the western portion
Observed over the last couple of days:
American Black Duck (1, Highway 348 approximately 0.3 mile west of Bible's
Chapel Road, August 18; probably a sick or injured bird; was observed at this
site very late into spring)
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron (1 juvenile, Lick Creek at Green Road, August 18; I
got excellent looks at the thick, dark bill, the characteristic thin, white
edgings to the wing feathers, and the small triangular spots on the wings;
there are breeding records for this species along Lick Creek many years ago; I
have suspected that it still breeds along this waterway but have found no hard
evidence)
Least Sandpiper (1-2 juveniles, Baughard Hill Road, August 17-18)
Eurasian Collared-Dove (1, vicinity of West Greene High School, August 17; 38th
consecutive month here)
Eastern Screech-Owl (1, along lower Holly Creek Road, August 18)
