Musick's Campground
South Holston Lake
Sullivan Co., TN
Black Tern 1 (first fall record of year for Northeast Tennessee)
Great Blue Heron 1
Brown's Cove
South Holston Lake
Washington Co, VA
Brown's dairy farm (intersection Lake Rd. & Bowman Rd.) near Camp Sequoyah.
Mudflats wet and extensive. Lake level falling rapidly --
Thur 16 Aug 12 noon = 1710.07 feet elevation
Thur 9 Aug 6 pm = 1711.60 feet
Pectoral Sandpiper 4
Spotted Sandpiper 1
Great Blue Heron 1
Paddle Creek Ponds
near South Fork Holston River
Sullivan Co., TN
Semipalmated Sandpiper 1
Spotted Sandpiper 1
Green Heron 2
Wood Duck 15
Killdeer 42
Great Blue Heron 1
Mute Swan 1
Of note at Paddle Creek is a larger number of white feathers of all sizes,
including
what appears to be primaries from the wing of what must have been a large bird.
My best guess is that a Great Egret bit the dust along the shoreline on the
upper
end of the lower pond. The only other large, white bird frequenting the ponds
is
the swan which is accounted for in this report. The carcass appears to be
gone.
Let's go birding......
