[Bristol-Birds] BBC Field Trip, Aug. 19th, Laurel Bed Lake, VA

Saturday, August 19th, the Bristol Bird Club members will be joining with
the Russell County Bird Club at Laurel Bed Lake for the RCBC annual picnic.
BBC members are planning to meet at Laurel Bed Lake around 2:00 PM for some
afternoon bird watching and socializing. The picnic will be sometime around
5 or 6 PM. Bring your own picnic dinner, etc. You should bring lawn chairs
and table if you wish since there are no actual picnic facilities there.
If you have one of the VA Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries books,
"Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail - Mountain Area", the map is on page
164. If not, the link below is for a pdf file of the map. If you have any
questions regarding the directions, send me a note. It is a beautiful
setting for a fun trip.

Directions: From I-81, take the Chilhowie exit and take VA 91 to Saltville.
Drive through Saltville and turn left onto Rt. 634/Allison Gap Road. Turn
left on Rt. 634/Allison Gap Road and proceed 1.3 miles to Rt. 613/Poor
Valley Road. Turn left on Rt. 613/Poor Valley Road, continuing for another
3.8 miles to Rt. 747/Tumbling Creek Road. Turn right on Rt. 747/Tumbling
Creek Road and travel for an additional 2.0 miles to the wildlife
management area headquarters. From Clinch Mountain WMA headquarters
continue north on Rt. 747/Tumbling Creek Road for another 3.0 miles to the
fork in the road. Veer left onto a wooden bridge and travel 2.2 miles to
reach the road to the dam.
