Bristol Birders,

I had a meeting at Lebanon, VA today and stopped by the "mud
hole" at Elk Garden on the way home to look for any shorebirds
that may be in the area.  The mud hole was dry but as I was
tracking a Red-tailed Hawk across the sky I noticed a high kettle
of birds near Beartown Mountain.  Even when I got my scope out
the birds were too high to make positive identifications.  I
looked like several of them were Black Vultures, a couple were
Red-tails, and I fairly certain that at least 10 or so of them
were Broad-wings (different kettle).  I scanned the top of Clinch
Mt. and found several birds - some looked to be Turkey Vultures
but others were raptors.  Anyone who has been to Elk Garden knows
that it would be impossible to make a positive ID along the top
of Beartown/Clinch Mt. at that distance but there is certainly
some type of movement going on up there.
