South Holston Lake, VA

TN side:
      1 Great Blue Heron
      4 Turkey Vultures
      1 Red-tailed Hawk
    13 American Goldfinches - crossed to VA side

VA side:
      3 Green Herons
      5 Turkey Vultures
    47 Mallards - 17 males in eclipse plumage, 30 females
      1 Northern Harrier - female
      1 Spotted Sandpiper - basic (non-breeding) plumage
      4 Mourning Doves
      1 Eastern Phoebe - singing
      7 American Crows
      5 Barn Swallows
      2 Carolina Chickadees
      1 House Wren

      1 Sleepy Orange
      1 Red-spotted Purple
      1 Leonard's Skipper


        The Northern Harrier was soaring very high over a large field.  Then it 
parachuted straight down, without retracting its wings at all - until at 
roughly 3 meters (20 ft.) above the grass, it dove to the ground, apparently 
seizing a small prey item.

        I, also, had a pleasant encounter with Virgil "Lightning" Carr (and 
Bear, the dog).  He gifted me with roughly 10 lbs. of his tomato crop, 
including some fine yellow ones.
