Alex Coley, who came to Bristol Tennessee to be the "Nature Center Manager" at
Steele Creek Park late last year, is leaving the position Friday, August 13, to
take a high school faculty and coaching job near Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Coley, who grew up in Gate City, VA and said he wanted to live back in this
area near home, will become an assistant football coach at Wartburg High School
west of Oak Ridge. He will teach biology at the high school level.
He was employed at the park last December 22, and served in the position a
little over seven months. He came to a position which had not been filled for
two months during a search for applicants. Leslie Burell held the position for
14 working days between Oct. 6 and Oct. 24, 2003 when she turned in her
resignation and left a few minutes later.
The "Nature Center Manager" positon was originally held for seven years by
Kevin Hamed until he joined the faculty of Virginia Highlands Community College
last fall to teach biology. Hamed became a regional leader and worker in
natural history and the Steele Creek Nature Center had fast become a program
model and state award winning center.
Let's go birding....
