Area Birders,
Again this morning just like clockwork more migrants appeared in my
backyard. A Chestnut-sided Warbler, a 1st year, male Rose-breasted Grosbeak,
a Yellow-throated Warbler and 5 Am. Robins.

But the one thing that got my attention was the aggressive behavior of
several birds. Something overhead caught my attention. I looked up to see a
hummingbird chasing a Northern Flicker. Quite a spectacle to see this
relatively large bird being chased by this tiny black dot. A few minutes
later the same scenario was repeated, but this time with a hummer and a
Mourning Dove. Then a third time a few minutes afterward, a Red-eyed Vireo
went zooming past with a hummer hot on his tail. I don't think it was the
same hummer each time, though it possibly could have been.

Later, while watching a White-eyed Vireo in the apple tree, I saw it attack
a Chestnut sided Warbler as the warbler landed nearby. The two fought for a
second, then flew in opposite directions.

I think the urge to migrate has gotten these birds' juices flowing.
