Bristol Bird Club Members
and other birders who would like to join us.
The BBC will hold it's Tuesday, Aug. 20, meet at 7:30
p.m. in the "conference room" just off the parking lot
at the Steele Creek Park Lodge (conference center or
beach house as you know it).
The conference room is just across the parking lot from
the walkway ramp which leads up to the Steele Creek
Park Nature Center.
If you plan to attend, the park is located in Bristol Tennessee.
It is located about 1/2 mile off Tenn. Rt. 126 which runs
between Bristol and Blountville. There are signs where
to turn from 126 and to the park entrance, etc. Tenn. Rt. 126
goes from Blountville north to Bristol and into US 11W
at Taco Bell. This is in the western part of the city not far
from I-81 near Bristol Mall. Wellmont--the Bristol Regional
Medical Center hospital is located on U.S. 11W.
Jim Willis of Lebanon, VA will be our speaker.
His topic will be "Potential Effects of Present Forestry
(and non-forestry) Practices on bird populations of public
and private lands".
Willis is an associate extension agen for the Virginia
Coopeerative Extension program. He spent 27 years
in forestry research, land management, and environmental
studies with Chesapeake Corporation. He worked three
years with the Indiana Division of Forestry.
Remember this is a great time to pay our Treasurer
Janice Martin for your reservation to hear Jeff Wilson
of Memphis (also known as Ol Coot on TN-Birds) speak
at our annual banquet which will be held Sept. 13 at the
Greenway Haven in Abingdon. Cost is $18.50 per person.
Janice will be eager to take your cash or check. Deadline
for reservation is Sept. 1. Don't wait too late. Everyone
is invited. You don't have to be a member of the BBC.
Bring your significant other whoever they are types or
your nextdoor neighbor who loves to feed birds. Jeff
will have a great talk and dramatic slides of his birdstudy
in the Mid-South.
We hope you will join us.
