Don Carrier and others,
To the best of my knowledge, the Little Blue Heron is a new species for Shady
Valley, TN. Published bird observations for Shady date back to about 1912.
More systematic accounts, with specific dates and lists, extend to 1934.
Is this the same bird you reported from Orchard bog on July 13 and guessed it
might be a Great Egret ?
You didn't mention in Saturday's post where in Shady you saw it. Do you have
the first date you saw the Little Blue Heron ? What date did Johns Shumate see
it ?
I would appreciate the details because this is an important addition to the
check-list of birds for Shady Valley.
Let's go birding.....

In Shady Valley there is an immature little blue heron. I have observed and
photographed the bird many times in the last week. ID confirmed by John Shumate.
Does anyone else have a record for Shady Valley?
