Wallace,
In reference to your questions about any early shorebird migration in the VA
mountains,
on Sat (July 20) I had 2 Spotted Sandpipers at Rural Retreat Lake. The
water level there
is still high with very little mudflat exposure. On July 19, I had an
immature Black-
crowned Night Heron on the New River between Galax & Independence (these
birds are some-
times hard to find around the Galax area). I will try to get over to the
Saltville area
sometime this week to check out the water level there.
Good birding,
Glen Eller
Galax, VA
