A pair of Great Blue Herons which built an isolated nest on the South Fork 
Holston River in
eastern Sullivan County, TN. in mid to late March may not be successful in 
hatching young.

Bob Cheers, former Bristol Bird Club member, called me week or so ago to report
that there is no sign of young having hatched there but an apparent adult is 
still
on the nest and is sitting low.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the region's only known nesting record for 
a solitary 
nest not in a rookery.  I saw it for the first time  27 Mar 2007.

The location is on the left down stream bank of the river from the Webb Bridge, 
located on
the Old Weaver Pike at what is known as Riverside.  The nest is on an outer 
branch of a 
tall sycamore tree located on a north facing river cliff and maybe 100+ feet 
above the river. 
It is difficult to find with all the leaves in the trees.
