spruce-fir forest atop Roan Mtn.
Carter Co., TN / Mitchell Co., NC
a few species of note:
Sharp-sh. Hawk - 1, carrying prey
Ruffed Grouse - 2 chicks
Alder Flycatcher - 2
Red-br. Nuthatch - 7 (an off year, following poor cone crop last year)
Brown Creeper - 3
Hermit Thrush - 4, singing
Magnolia Warbler - 2, singing
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1, singing (where reported on week-end by Rob
Biller et al.)
Indigo Bunting - 2, singing (rare at 6000 ft. elevation)
Red Crossbill - 5+
Pine Siskin - 20+
note: a good fir cone crop is developing this year, so seed-eaters
should increase.
