[Bristol-Birds] Hooded Merganser in Shady Valley, TN

A Hooded Merganser (female or second year male) was on Gerald Buckles' Pond in
Shady Valley, Johnson Co., TN today (6/17). The pond is at the foot of Holston
Mountain beside U.S. 421 Hwy. This is the first summer record for this species
in Shady Valley in five years. A similar bird was present June 1997, June 1998
and May to Aug 2000. It is notable that the bird arrived in connection with
the cold front which passed thru the area Thursday.
