[Bristol-Birds] Warbling Vireo (Jefferson Co.)

Cherokee Dam (Jefferson County)
I was in Jefferson City briefly this afternoon and stopped by Cherokee
Dam for a bit of birding before heading back toward Greeneville. I
chose not to drive past the visitor's center toward the overlook but
instead pulled in below the dam, along the tailwaters. Just after
turning off Highway 92 onto the short driveway that deadends below the
dam, I heard a Warbling Vireo singing in a grove of trees to the left.
Chuck Nicholson's Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Tennessee shows no info
on Warbling Vireo in Jefferson County, though there is a block marked
"probable" just over the line in Grainger County at approximately the
spot that would include the shore on the other side of the Holston River
from the Cherokee Dam area. Of course, that data was gathered many
years ago and may be unrelated to my observation today, but I would
guess that the Holston River below Cherokee Dam may well contain quite a
bit of suitable Warbling Vireo nesting habitat. In any case, the bird
is hard to find in northeast Tennessee, and I was pleasantly surprised
to locate one today.
