Area Birders,
REMEMBER: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF BBC TO ATTEND THE PICNIC. And
obviously your guest do not need to be members either.

This time of year there are afternoon and evening showers almost every day. We
have had record crowds and rain for the past two or three years. We have a
picnic rain or shine. The picnic is on.

As we change the venue and move up the hill to a better picnic location for the
Bristol Bird Club, we are changing a bit of the routine. Change is fun !
Something to look forward to.

First, remember, as Dave Worley just noted, we will be at the Civitan Shelter
on the hill.

The first hilltop shelter on the left before you drive down to the Steele Creek
Park Nature Center is the ROTARY SHELTER -- WRONG ONE. Don't turn in there.

We are the NEXT shelter on the hill on the LEFT OF THE ROAD. Our Civitan
Shelter has a big and colorful sign by the driveway.

The Civitan Shelter offers us a private parking lot, on the same level as the
shelter. It is a spacious shelter with not only tables to eat at but, as I
remember, serving shelves to put the food on. Everything is wide open and
spacious. We also have nice bathrooms in one end of the shelter which are
entered from the outside. So there is no more walking across the park to reach
bathrooms. We can load our chairs, food, people and everything just a few feet
from the parking lot right into the shelter. It also provides better
protection from rain. We have a very nice playground adjacent to the shelter
for all the younger folks who attend. We overlook the lake but are not
adjacent to the water.

If it rains you have no wet grass or slippery slopes to get back to your car.
All the parking is very close. No long walks from parking lots.

We used this shelter for several years during the 1990's. It will not be new
to many of our birders.

The cooked veggies which I have been serving for the last many years will not
be on this year's menu. Rob Biller and I are teaming up to sever a "taste of
ribs" instead. Rob is busy shopping for the meat and marinating the ribs. Rob
and I will be the chefs and we will fire them on the grill before dinner is
served. This is a pre-taste of delight before the hamburgers and hotdog
staples hit the table. We are not serving the ribs as a main meat course. We
hope to have enough for everyone to get a bite or so. They were a hit and a
joy at the BBC Natural Tunnel birding weekend. Get your bibs on. Rob brings
his own special sauce.

Bill Grigsby will be bringing his dutch ovens and cooking cobbler for us. That
was a special treat at Natural Tunnel.

Bring your lawn chairs, beds or recliners. Bring your binoculars and your
lover or anyone else who will come.

Bill Grigsby takes over the office of BBC President at the beginning of the
picnic and the terms of the new officers for 2005-2006 begin on Saturday at
that hour.

We hope to have a special representative from the Steele Creek Nature Center
staff to attend on behalf of the city park.

We have a wonderful year ahead for BBC. I know you can't wait.

Let's go birding....let's go picnicing.
