Area Birders:
Chris O'Bryan, a Bristol Bird Club member and active birder who last month
turned age 16, has been hired by the City of Bristol Tennessee Department of
Leisure Services.

He joins the Steele Creek Park Nature Center staff as a year-around part-time
employee. As a former junior naturalist, Chris spent the past three years
volunteering hundreds of hours at the park. He helped manage collections and
display animals, conducted field trips for adults and youth, worked with summer
nature camps, planted more than a hundred trees at the park and conducted
significant turtle research.

His park research of the Spiny Softshell turtle was funded last summer by a
Howard Hughes grant provided by the biology department of East Tennessee State
University. He was also presented research funding from the Friends Of Steele
Creek Park Nature Center. Chris' research was featured in a Turner South
network national television series last year.

In recent weeks he has been helping a King College student and the King biology
faculty establish a turtle research project for the school.

Watch for Chris when you are at the nature center in the future.

Let's go birding....
