We just returned from two weeks of great birding. Our 2nd day we hit the
backroads of North Dakota and birded all the pothole region, which was
covered with ducks and waterbirds, then to Audubon NWR to close out the day.
We did not think it possible to top a day like we had there, but Bowdoin NWR
in Montana was even better and after that we hit Glacier Nat. Park.
We birded on to the very western most point in the lower 48, Cape Flattery,
Washington. Over looking the cliffs and coves we picked up lots of life
birds and just kept building the trip list. The next day we took a boat
trip off the coast and picked up lots more.
After working our way down the Washington coast, we did part of the Oregon
coast then turned inland to pick up some woodland birds. We birded Cool
Springs NWR and some other areas before hitting Utah.
We did not have any particular area in mind, but stumbled over Bear River
NWR in Brigham City. This was the best spot we had on the entire trip.
There were millions of birds present, and trillions of mosquitoes, we could
not get out of the car for them. Sometimes they were so thick we could not
take pictures.
We birded on back home, finishing with 19 lifers and over 300 on the trip
list. I will list some of our best below.

Tufted Puffin
Cassin`s Finch
Rhinoceros Auklet
Pigeon Guillemot
Pacific-slope Flycatcher
Common Murre
Cassin`s Auklet
Varied Thrush
Heermann`s Gull
Franklin`s Gull
Sooty Shearwater

It was a great trip.
