[bristol-birds] Strange Things

Since early spring I have had great crested flycatchers calling around my house
in Bluff City.
Today (Sunday) while putting out bird feed they were exceedingly noisy around
an owl box
in the woods in back of my house. Upon investigation I found the pair fighting
a 20 inch
black snake trying to get in the owl box. Wlhile watching the birds either
knocked the snake
off the box or it fell. The box is about 15 feet up a large hickory.
After dispatching the snake (since I had put the box up nature was no longer
lin the picture}
I climbed the tree and found one fledgling thaat seemed to be old enough to
leave the nest.
In past years these birds have nested here and have been known to put snake
skins dangling
out of the nest.
Have a good one!!!
