A capacity group has registered with the Bristol Bird Club for this coming
weekend (June 14-15-16) of birding along the swift-running, picturesque
waters of the Clinch River in Southwest Virginia.

The lodge, located along Va. State Route 72 southwest of Dungannon im Scott
County 28 miles north of Kingsport and 24 miles south of Norton, was
designed and built in 1969 as a hunting lodge for clients of the Clinchfield
Railroad. It features a 20-foot-wide hand-cut strone fireplace, large wet
bar and leather game table. Chandeliers are creafted from local wagon
wheels and add atmosphere. The facility lodge hall offers plenty of
comfortable and lounging where we can relax with a book or gaze at the view.

All reservations for the canoe trip and accommodations at The Nature
Conservancy's Rikemo Lodge are complete.

Those who have signed up for the much-anticipated weekend are: Carolyn Coffey,
Wallace Coffey, Debbie Dereska, Mary Erwin, June Fulbright, John Hay, Don
Holt, Tom
Horsch, Ron Lapp, Rose Lapp, Fred Martin, Janice Martin, Judy Musick, Larry
McDaniel,
Dick Peak, Jill Riendeau, Ed Talbott, Michelle Talbott, Dave Worley and
Diana Worley.

Janice Martin & Fred Martin (TNC canoe)
Employee of The Consevancy & possibly Judy Musick

Judy Musick will be an alternate for any vacant canoe seat.

This wonderful weekend will take us into one of North America's most
sensitive and
valued biodiversity hotspots as recognized by The Nature Conservancy.

We will enjoy a cozy, rustic, environment surrounding the hunting lodge of
hand-hewn logs with spacious open areas for dinning, relaxing, birding, and
good times
with friends.

Tom Horsch coordinates and manages the canoe trip. Wallace Coffey is handling
arrangements with The Conservancy, scouting the area, field trips and program.

Jill Riendeau will cater dinner Saturday evening and the meal cost has been
paid up front.

The Nature Conservancy's Abingdon office team is providing canoes for the
7-mile down
river birding float. Their staff member will be along to share the great
biodiversity of the
Clinch.

Rikemo Lodge is owned by The Nature Conservancy of Virginia. It is perched
on a
towering hill amidst trees with a peaceful view of the Clinch River. The
retreat is in the
heart of 100 acres of nature preserve. It includes walking trails and a
fish pond.

"The Nature Conservancy has been very generous in their willingness to host
the BBC and our birders in one of the last great places," said club
President Dave Worley, who has been a leader in the project since it was
first suggested by Bill Kittrell of The Conservancy. Worley called it one
of the truly outstanding and promising club
opportunities in recent years.
