The Bristol Bird Club's very popular field trip to Whitetop Mountain in southwest Virginia is scheduled for Saturday, June 16. It includes a downhill walk (approximately 2 1/2 miles) along the Appalachian Trail. The walk takes about 3 hours and leads us through a variety of high elevation habitats.

Some birds seen on past trips include Red Crossbills, Magnolia Warblers, Chestnut-sided Warblers, Ravens, Brown Creepers, Red-breasted Nuthatches, Winter Wrens, Hermit Thrush, Swainson's Thrush and many others. We have heard a Saw-whet Owl calling in the daytime during our walk.

Everyone is welcome. Dave Worley and I will be leading the trip. It finishes off with a picnic lunch and birding at the top of the mountain in the early afternoon. I will post more details later, but mark your calendar now for this one.
