On May 23, 2005, Wallace Coffey and I completed our second annual survey of 
birds along Washington County, VA route 802 going west from U S Hwy 19 12.3 
miles to Route 621 (Barnrock Road) near Mendota, VA. This route follows Poor 
Valley and roughly parallels the North Fork Holston River but moves away from 
the 
river at the lower end. We had 49 species, compared to 47 last year. The 
weather was mostly clear and sunny, with winds from the NW 10-20 mph.
