Herndon (Elizabethton) TOS Whip-poor-will Field Trip
Tuesday 24 MAY 2005

The "Whip Trip" scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 has had a slight change of
itinerary. Instead of meeting to eat at the River's Edge Restaurant on TN Hwy
81
for supper, the meal will be at Maple Grove Restaurant at Exit 23 on
Interstate 26. (The River's Edge will be closed on Tuesday). Those wishing to
eat
should arrive at 6 pm. After supper, at 7 pm, the group will meet any late
arrivals at the Forest Service building. Go just past Maple Grove to the
traffic
light, turn left at the light, and then right into the Forest Service parking
lot, where we will organize a carpool. We expect to return from the mountain
probably no sooner than 10:30 pm.
--------------------------ATTENTION ELIZABETHTON
MEMBERS----------------------------------
The last minute change in the meeting place necessitates the following
request. If you are an Elizabethton Club member, please help spread the word
to our
"non-computerized" members, and please e-mail or if necessary call me to let
me know whether or not you or a "non-comp" that you know are coming. dnldhlt
at aol.com (423) 914-5862

Members of other bird clubs are welcome, as is the general public. Be
advised the trip lasts until after sundown, and is on unpaved roads in National
Forest. Please be prepared for darkness and cooler night-time temperatures,
and
if you plan on driving in the carpool, make sure your vehicle is fully fueled.
If you have only heard but never seen a Whip-poor-will, this trip is highly
recommended, and even more fun for us repeat offenders. Prairie Warblers,
Scarlet Tanagers, Wood Thrushes and/or Veeries, various owls, and the
occasional
varmint sighting are all likely. We hope you can join us.
