Bill Grigsby of Kingsport, TN was elected Bristol Bird Club president for
2005-2006 when the BBC met Tuesday night at the ETSU-Bristol Center.
Grigsby takes office Saturday, June 11, at the BBC Annual Picnic to be held at
the Civitan Shelter, Steele Creek Park, Bristol, TN from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Dave Worley presented a colorful, informative and enjoyable program about his
recent birding trip to Costa Rico.

In other business, Mitch Moore ask what had happened to the Bristol Bird Club
newsletter [ THE EAGLE -- The last issue was eight months ago, August 2004 ].

Wallace Coffey, who last edited the newletter, said he felt it was no longer
practical to publish the time-consuming publication and that he thought the
expense was not justified because most of the useful information was being
provided over Bristol Birds Net. He noted that a number of members contributed
articles for past issues but few had since he became editor for a second time
several years ago. It was noted by some members that BBC had discussed this
matter previously and, at that time, no one expressed an interest in being the
editor. [ It had been discussed indepth with officers and others at a BBC
planning meeting and later at a BBC monthly meeting. ] Coffey said he had not
made a decision to do away with the BBC newsletter. He said he told the club
he would no longer be the editor.

Moore asked what else a person gets for their membership dues. Coffey noted
planning and implementation of social events, meetings, field trips,
conservation efforts and other BBC sponsored activites. He gave a few
examples. Coffey said membership included state membership and the TOS
journal, THE MIGRANT.

Judy Roach made special note of her use of the calendar portion of the
newsletter and explained how it was useful. There was discussion by members
about at least providing a calendar in some form.

It was agreed that Roach and Moore will determine what can be provided to the
membership and be responsible for what form, how and when it will be
distributed.

V.P. Larry McDaniel suggested that, if there are printed copies of anything,
that it could be provided to those who wanted printed copies and the same
information might also be sent to others by e-mail.

It was suggested that anything distributed could also be put on the Bristol
Bird Club webpage. It was pointed out that club events and dates appear on the
website at the present.

Coffey asked Treasurer Janice Martin if she would have any problem providing
whatever mailing list of members might be needed if something was published and
would be mailed. Mary Erwin said the question was not relative. Martin said
it would not be a problem.

Dave Worley, in response to a question about the Russell County Bird Club
newsletter, said he stopped being the editor when he had trouble getting
information for the publication.

Coffey said he had created the BBC newsletter [1990] and had been the editor
all but the time when Rob Biller was editor and the year when Amanda Martin was
editor -- a total of ten or eleven years. Biller remarked that he had been
editor of THE EAGLE for three years [ 1997-1999 ].
