The Bristol Bird Club had a great weekend at Natural Tunnel State Park,
Duffield, Virginia. Natural Tunnel is a beautiful park with great
facilities and wonderful views of Natural Tunnel and southwest Virginia. On
four walks on Saturday and Sunday, May 14th and 15th there were 23 non-BBC
or NTSP participants, including Lewis and Doris Carson (Kingsport, TN),
Dutt and Faye Wagers (Kingsport), Holly Walker (VA DCR, Richmond, VA),
Bruce Cole (Kingsport), Susan Hubley (Rogersville, TN), Amy and Evan
Cathers (Kingsport), Anna Fursich (Sneedville, TN), Albert and Nancy
Kinkade (Kingsport), Albert and Kay Harrington (New Jersey), Jeanne Forel
(Mass.), Martha Podren (Big Stone Gap, VA and Boston, Mass.), Don and Susan
Allgood (Nickelsville, VA), Mel and Margaret Randolf (Kingsport), and Keith
and Alice Knowles (Kingsport). The walks were led by Bristol Bird Club
Members, Rob Biller, Wallace and Carolyn Coffey, Mary Erwin, Bill Grigsby,
John Hay, John Moyle, Dexter and Linda Newman, Mike Poe, Judy Roach, Nora
and Mahalia Shubert. The staff from Natural Tunnel State Park supporting
the walks were Marty McConnell, Bill Cawood, Bob Vangundy and Jean Brown
(outstanding volunteer leader). We appreciate the work done by the NTSP
staff to put on this successful weekend of birding as a International
Migratory Bird Day event to introduce others to birding and to see the NTSP
Birding Trail and the various habitats and the species of birds in each
type of habitat.
