Spent some time today (Mon., May 24) watching the Least Flycatcher at
Meadowview Convention Center in Kingsport. The bird is still present and
singing, although not as consistently as he was last week. Still have not seen
a mate or any evidence of nest building. I watched and listened from around
10:30 am until just before noon. While watching the flycatcher I found a pair
of Cedar Waxwings building a nest near the top of a tall Sycamore along Horse
Creek. Also found two other nests in another sycamore which I think belong to
Orchard Orioles and a pair of Eastern Kingbirds. I heard and saw a male
Northern Oriole in the same tree and also a Warbling Vireo was singing and
foraging nearby. Busy little spot. Will keep you posted on the Least
Flycatcher and others.
