[Bristol-Birds] Birding Weekend at Natural Tunnel State Park, Virginia

We had a great weekend at NTSP. Three walks were lead by Bristol Bird
Club members: Mary Erwin, Judy Roach, Nancy Necessary, Pat McFarlane,
Bob Quillen, Linda & Dexter Newman, Mike Poe, Mitch Moore, John Hay, and
Bill Grigsby. There were 16 people on the walks including Dr. & Mrs.
Larry Morse of Kingsport, Donna and Elexis Moore of Blountville, Jackie
Maness of Norton, and 3 families of 6 adults and 5 youth. NTSP
interpreters and rangers also participated including Bill Cawood, Jean
Brown, Bob Vangundy, Stewart Scales, and Marty McConnell. Between
walks, many of the BBC members visited other sites in the park which
provided additional opportunities for birding. Probably the best in my
opinion was the area around the gazebo at the top of the hill that the
birding trail winds around. Dexter, Linda, and Mike displayed their
skills at getting Grasshopper Sparrows, Prairie Warblers, and
Yellow-breasted Chats to pose up-close and personal. The facilities and
staff were great and everyone seemed to have a good time. The Newman's,
Moore's, and I camped and had a very enjoyable time. Natural Tunnel
State Park is a very good birding location.
