Dear Bristol Birders,

 

This morning (May 17) I scoped the Kingsport Breat Blue Heron rookery
below Fort Patrick Henry Dam to see how the chicks have fared in the
past month since my last visit.  On April 13, 12 chicks were large
enough to be seen standing in the nests.  Now chicks cover nests and
nearby branches.  Adults are perched in adjacent trees.  It is quite a
sight!

 

All 15 nests in the main colony have chicks or adults present today.
Because of vegetation, I could not locate the single nest that was
downstream of the main group.
