Report on Fieldtrip to
Western Washington Co., TN

Eight people enjoyed birding in Washington Co. from 8am to 12 noon Saturday, 
tallying 54 spp.  Participants were Don Holt, Rick Knight, Larry McDaniel, 
Charles Moore, Dexter & Linda Newman, Mike Poe, and Patsy Reading.  Weather 
was warm (60's to 80's), humid, partly cloudy to mostly sunny, with calm to 
light breezes.  Target species found included Red-headed Woodpecker near 
Bowmantown Ruritan Club, shorebirds (Least and Spotted Sandpipers) at 
Westview Pond, Dickcissel at the junction of Old State Rt. 34 and Taylor Mill 
Rd., and Bobolink near Jackson Farm on the Nolichucky River.  Other species 
greatly enjoyed by the group included a large flock of Cliff Swallows and a 
Yellow-breasted Chat at Jackson Bridge,  Baltimore Orioles and nesting Tree 
Swallows at Bowmantown, and Blue Grosbeaks and Grasshopper Sparrows at the 
Taylor Mill Rd junction.  The full list follows:
