Area Birders,
Yesterday, May 3, The Buchanan County Bird Club birded the Breaks Interstate
Park, starting with a nice breakfast at the Breaks lodge. After the fog
lifted the weather was cooperative, and the fresh spring green trails were
pleasing to the eye and filled with warblers and other migrants. With 50
species observed, 15 of which were warblers, the highlight of the day was
the three striking Bay-breasted Warblers that were lifebirds for several in
the group. Next were the two Swainson's Warblers that made appearances in
the Rhododendron. Other warblers observed were Am. Redstart 1,
Black-and-white Warblers 6, Black-throated Blues 2, Black-throated Greens 2,
Cerulean Warblers 3, Common Yellowthroat 1, Hooded Warbler 9, Northern
Parulas 5, Ovenbird 11, Worm-eating Warbler 1, Yellow-breasted Chat 3,
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1, Yellow-throated Warbler 3, Yellow Warbler 1.
