Bristol Area Birders:
We saw an albino American Robin today near the
South Fork of Holston River just out of Alvarado,
VA in Washington County.
I was birding with Betsy White and Ramsey White
when the bird was spotted standing in the roadway
about 150 feet ahead of our vehicle. It flew into
the brush along the road before we could stop.
We stopped at that spot and could clearly see the
bird perched about 10 feet from the road's edge
with its side towards us.
It was a "piedbald" albino which means it is not
void of any natural coloration.
The head, nape, back, wings and tail appeared to
all be white.
The breast and other underneath parts were the
typical orange.
I have seen several albino robins in the area and
atlest three prior ones have had the same color
pattern.
