[bristol-birds] Carter Co. Barn Owls

Friday May 03, 2002, in the parking lot of Comfort Inn in east Elizabethton,
TN I heard a Barn Owl call twice, first behind the Inn and then overhead,
apparently flying toward the highway. It was not the hissing screech usually
found on the commercial recordings I have heard, but the softer "shreek" that
I interpret as a contact call. A non-releasable Barn Owl I was familiar with
often gave the same call whenever I passed its cage without stopping to greet
it.
Sunday May 12 I heard several Barn Owl contact calls behind my house in
Central on Smalling Rd. around 11 pm. I'm not sure but I think there may
have been two birds calling. If anyone wants to sit out one night and feed
the mosquitoes in the back forty with me, give me a call - 926-0865. Leave a
name and number if I'm gone.
