Area Birders,
In the Breaks Park today my wife and I found our FOS Northern Parula and our
FOS Broad-winged Hawk. There were also Blue-headed Vireos, Yellow-throated
Warblers and Yellow-rumped Warblers singing.
Our FOS female Ruby-throat came in to the feeder on April 9th.
Early this morning our FOS White-eyed Vireo was singing near the edge of the
yard. A White-crowned Sparrow (seen here only during migration) was at the
feeder.
Our resident Yellow Warblers have not yet returned. We have had them as early
as April 1st and as late as April 15, but they almost always arrive just as the
apple trees are beginning to bloom. The first blossoms are just bursting free.
5 Purple Finches and 2 Juncos are still visiting the feeders.
4 Tree Swallows are checking out the gourds on our Martin House, and we have 9
bluebird nests in the boxes of our bluebird trail, at least one with 5 eggs. A
male Brown Thrasher is kept busy feeding his female from our suet feeder, as
she flutters her wings and bats her eyes at him (Well, almost).
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
