Lecture: "The Art and Science of Bird Songs"
Appalachian Spring Illustrated Lecture Series:
Dr. Steve Hopp
Thursday, April 7,
7:30 p.m.
Executive Auditorium of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center
Abingdon, Virginia
Free for Everyone
In the spring the Appalachian forests are a symphony of bird songs, with each
species contributing its distinctive sound.
Most people can identify the songs of a few species, but it takes patience and
a trained ear to identify the hundreds of songs in the Appalachian spring
symphony.
Steve Hopp is an expert on animal acoustic communications and will give the
audience an introduction to both the aesthetics of bird communications as well
as an introduction to its scientific study.
Hopp will include the computer analysis of sound which creates voice prints.
He has recently returned to Southwest Virginia after 10 years of teaching at
the University of Arizona.
I'll see you there!
Let's go birding.......
