Hey Tom,
Dianne Draper and I checked out your Great Blue site Sunday afternoon (3
APR 2005). We saw a heron on the nest behind a building that had a sign that I
think said Damascus Hosiery Mill (?). We stopped and looked from the vacant
lot next to the building. We managed to find twelve different nests amongst
the pine trees, several with adult herons visible on the nest. I wouldn't be
surprised if a careful search found some more. We didn't have time to stay for
it, but a count of herons near dusk or dawn would be interesting. There were
several Great Blues flying across the valley.

Subject: [Bristol-Birds] Great Blue Heron rookery in Damascus
Hello Bristol Birders,
I haven't seen mention of the Great Blue Heron nests in Damascus off
Shady Ave.
If you are heading away from Damascus on Shady Ave toward Shady Valley,
there are at least 2 nests visible, high in the pines to the left,
across from the old Dye-Plant property. The nests with birds sitting in
them are easily visible with the naked eye from the road. Not sure how
many nests are in the area, but I frequently see several Great Blues
flying to and from this area at dusk.
If someone wants to investigate, I'd be happy to go or point them in the
direction.
