[Bristol-Birds] Kingsport Greenbelt (East) and Backyard Birds

Stopped at the Greenbelt at American Way entrance (behind Ramada Inn).
The trees at the parking area where someone puts out feed had cardinals
and blackbirds. I was having trouble differentiating the species
because I was looking into the sun. Looked like female Red-wings and
male Brewers, but I am not sure.
The big news is that between the entrance and the Red-shouldered Hawk
nest were 9 Yellow-crowned Night Herons. They were perched in the trees
away from the nests from last year. At first, I couldn't see a hawk on
the nest. Finally one flew up and stood above the nest. I couldn't tell
if the other was on the nest or not. I thought it was strange because
there was not vocalizaton as before when the two hawks swapped nesting
duty. Also saw a Red-bellied Woodpecker, but have not seen it at the
nesting hole that was excavated about two weeks ago.
Interesting yardbirds today were Brown Thrashers (yesterday was the
first time this year), Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher (a yard first), and a Brown
Creeper (also a yard first). Stepping outside early in the morning is
almost deafening.
