Area Birders,
This past Saturday nine members of the Buchanan County Bird Club birded Keen
Mt Park, Horn Mt and Compton Mt within Buchanan County in spite of off and
on rain showers. 55 species were seen and heard with 14 of those being
warblers. The warblers were 3 Am Redstarts, 8 Black-and-whites, 6
Black-throated Greens, 4 Blue-winged Warblers, one Golden-winged Warbler
singing a Blue-winged song, 6 Ceruleans, 3 Chestnut-sided Warblers, 1Common
Yellow-throat, 8 Hooded Warblers, 3 Northern Parulas, 10 Ovenbirds, 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, 6 Yellow-throated Warblers, and 3 Yellow Warblers.

Blue-wings, Ceruleans and Scarlet Tanagers offered us great looks, often at
eye level just a few feet away. One Rose-breasted Grosbeak fed in a Tulip
Poplar ignoring us, but giving a great view of his spring plumage. At one
point on Horn Mt, which will be a part of the Western VA Birding and
Wildlife Trail, the birds were so thick that we had to decide which ones to
put the binos on.
At Keen Mt Park a Robin's nest was found constructed in part with plastic
Easter basket grass. Ed Talbott, Vice President of our bird club, got some
great video of some of the birds and has posted some video still shots at
the following address.

The group made its way to our house, the Mayhorns, on Compton Mt, where
sandwiches and soft drinks were served before part of the group continued
birding in the nearby woods. Several species were seen near the house and I
showed the group a Yellow Warbler?s nest beside our driveway. Finally a
heavy rain ended the excellent birding day.
Following is the complete list.

Enjoy the birds,
