[Bristol-Birds] Laurel Bed Lake

Hi Folks,
I saw Ed Talbott's question about the road to Laurel Bed Lake.
The road is closed because of a problem with the dam and a 24-hour pumping
operation over the last several weeks to try to keep the water level down.
The road was closed as a safety measure to keep people away from the
tractor-operated pumping system.
Unfortunately we are going to have to drain the lake substantially in order
to make dam repairs, which are going to cost about $2-million dollars. This
drawdown is going to begin this week with the installation of siphons and we
are hoping to lower the water level 3 to 4 inches per day. We will have the
area open again just as soon as possible.
You are welcome to call me at our Marion Regional Office for an update on
the situation. The number there is (276) 783-4860. If I am not there, ask
for Bill Kittrell.
