This morning I dropped by Stuart's Pond to see if any
waterfowl had stopped overnight. I was ready to leave
when I decided to scan towards House and Barn
Mountain. To my surprise I saw an adult Golden Eagle
suspended just below the horizon. As I watched the
eagle kept getting closer and closer until binoculars
were not necessary to watch it hunt.
The eagle glided down the hill and dropped to within 2
feet of the ground without any wing movement at all.
He tilted his wings slightly and glided over the hill
and out of sight. He reappeared 100 yards or so
further along the hill and then dropped out of sight
and did not show again. A truly wonderful display of
effortless flight.
