[Bristol-Birds] Timberdoodles and Snickerdoodles

Saturday evening, in Shady Valley, TN, a group of Bristol Birders and
residents of Shady Valley gathered at Orchard Bog to watch for American
Woodcocks often called timberdoodles. We weren't disappointed several
males were heard calling then flying over the bog. One actually landed
on the path and was easily visible making it a memorable life bird for
several in the group. After watching and listening, we went into the
cabin and enjoyed snickerdoodles brought by Lois Cox and Wilma Boy with
other cookies and hot chocolate and spiced cider.
Orchard Bog is a 169 acre tract that is home to the bog turtle. This is
one of the areas in Shady Valley being protected byt The Nature
Conservancy. This will probably be one of the field trip destinations
for the TOS Spring Meeting which will be the first weekend of May.
BBC members attending were Lois Cox, Wilma Boy, John Hay, Victoria
Hanson, Larry McDaniel, Charlie Parker, Rudy Morales, Janice and Fred
Martin, and Bill Grigsby. Visitors and Shady Valley residents were Dan &
Wanda Lady, Lissa & Ted Jackson, Lynn and Todd Eastin, and Rick Foster.
Thanks to TNC for protecting this valuable wetland so we could share in
the spring ritual of the timberdoodles and to Lois and Wilma for the
snickerdoodles.
