Scoped the lake around 5 p.m.:
Pied-billed Grebes - 6
Double-crested Cormorants - 22
Great Blue Herons - 9 nests, 7 herons on nests
-on a sad note, one GBH fatality - hanging upside down, apparently with one
foot wedged in a tree. We observed the herons having difficulty landing in the
heronry at dusk last night during the high winds, and wonder if an accident may
have occurred last evening. The dead heron's mate is still sitting in the nest.
Canada Geese - 100+
Wood Duck - 3 pairs
Mallards - 20+
American Black Duck - 2
American Wigeon - 6
Blue-winged Teal - 4
Green-winged Teal - 2
Lesser Scaup - 8
Ring-necked Duck - 7
Bufflehead - 1 pair
American Coot - 4
