[Bristol-Birds] Herons and then some

Today while trying to pass the time I stopped by the Ft. Patrick Henry Dam
Rookery, Kingsport, TN to check on the owls and herons.

While viewing the Great Horned Owl and at least one owlet who was sitting up
viewing the world from his pedestal, I noted four Red-tailed Hawks soaring high
above the rookery. With those four were three Black Vultures. All appeared to
be catching thermals and slowly working their way higher and higher.

There were a few Mallards on the water and two Black- Crowned Night Herons
sharing a low limb and a heron nap. Their faces were hidden, tucked away under
all their fluff.

Also present were the Great Blue Herons who were busily moving about. At one
point there were several flying in and out of the rookery. I counted only 8
nests occupied today. I am sure others were out collecting material or perhaps
catching a bite to eat.

It is a wonderful place to view the owls and the herons. I can't wait to see
those leggy heron babies bopping around in the nests.
