Greene County (Greeneville; Kinser Park; various spots in the western
part of the county)
In about four hours of birding today, mostly by car, I logged the
following:
Great Blue Heron (4);
Canada Goose (24);
Wood Duck (15);
Mallard (7);
American Black Duck (4);
Green-winged Teal (5);
Blue-winged Teal (2);
Ring-necked Duck;
Turkey Vulture (14);
Northern Harrier;
Cooper's Hawk;
Red-tailed Hawk (8);
American Kestrel (14);
American Coot;
Killdeer (13);
Wilson's Snipe (32);
American Woodcock (2 behind Italian Village Restaurant at dusk);
Eurasian Collared-Dove (adjacent to West Greene High School);
Red-headed Woodpecker (Green Road);
Eastern Phoebe (4);
Tree Swallow (17);
White-breasted Nuthatch (2);
Red-breasted Nuthatch (Kinser Park);
American Pipit (57);
Swamp Sparrow (2);
White-throated Sparrow (16);
White-crowned Sparrow (8);
Eastern Meadowlark (28);
Brewer's Blackbird (Highway 340 0.1 mile west of Turner Lane) [one male
identified in a small flock of icterids before the birds disappeared
over a rise in the field; my hunch is that several Brewer's Blackbirds
were present, but I couldn't confirm it]
