Musick's Lakeside Campground
S. Holston Lake
Sullivan Co., TN
.
This evening Carol Cross, Wallace Coffey, and me, observed about 250
Ring-billed Gulls from atop the point. We used three different setups of the
Launched
Avian Restraint Utility System (L.A.R.U.S.) to no avail. The most innovative
change for today was the addition of a dog tie stake driven into the ground in
which to wrap the pull cord so as to gain a variety of posts from which to
activate the trap. This even enables us to launch the trap while situated
directly behind it. We had feeding gulls all around yet they remained sensitive
to
the presence of the trap.
I will be demonstrating the techniques of this method to include the many
variations of setups as part of my presentation at the BBC's March meeting. I
will also describe the unique and inexpensive construction of the L.A.R.U.S.
as
I discuss it's role in area Gull work.
